Career Day at John Muir Middle School of San Jose

One of the May 2019 fundraiser events for Ralph Gracie Jiu-Jitsu took place at John Muir middle school near the Blossom Hill area of San Jose, California. The event was about careers and also included firemen, but when an emergency arose the firemen left suddenly, making one of our three sessions suddenly balloon to 75 students.

Our team, including head instructor Justin “Machine” Holder, rolled out the wrestling mats from the gym at the middle school. Three different sessions of 20 minutes introduced students to the career of being a Martial Arts Instructor or a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) athlete. We demonstrated BJJ techniques and allowed students to try it out as well.

Our gym is located within walking distance of John Muir and classes are held at 4 PM after school. Ralph Gracie Jiu-Jitsu – San Jose seeks other non-profit community events. Please e-mail us with any proposals.

Justin demonstrated several moves, but the headlock escape had long lasting effects. Students were practicing the moves days after the demonstration. Several John Muir students have become members after watching Brazilian jiu jitsu being applied to a situation they can relate to. The video above and the photos below show one technique for escaping a headlock.
