San Jose Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament
The Ralph Gracie Jiu-Jitsu – San Jose team came home with a treasure chest of medals from a local BJJ tournament, including 7 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals. In more detail, on Saturday, September 6, 2019, the competition team at Ralph Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in San Jose entered the NAGA (North American Grappling Association) tournament. Held at the Santa Clara Convention Center, there were over a hundred competitors and a few hundred spectators at the event. The team sent 11 competitors, comprising 8 children and 3 adults. This was a big step up from the team of 3 sent to the team’s debut at the Jiu-Jitsu World League event held last month.

The kids no gi was up first. It was also a first appearance for our Gracie Kids Club for most of the students who have less than 6 months of training in the martial art. This did not stop Little Max and and his big brother Victor both from winning medals in no gi.
Little Max has come out of his shell for this tournament, and he showed it, as he went on to win a medal in gi. Izaiah or “Z” outscored opponents in both gi and no gi. In the adult no gi division, Victor M. and Alan medaled.
In the gi divisions, Gracie and Amelia both shined. EJ and Gabriel fed off their in-house battles to both medal in the gi division. Dorian Jr. and Gracie rounded off a day of hard work paying off in precious medal awards. The adults added 3 more gi medals. Altogether, there were 16 medals awarded to the team between 7 golds, 7 silvers and 2 bronze.
This BJJ tournament was hosted by NAGA as one of many tournaments held around the United States and around the world. NAGA is infamous for the WWE style championship belts awarded in expert divisions.
