MYTH: 6-8 YEAR OLD GIRLS DO NOT LIKE BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU
Kid Friendly Activity
The biggest myth about younger girls is that they would have no interest in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. To the contrary, one of our largest demographics at Ralph Gracie Jiu-Jitsu – San Jose is 6-8 year old girls. As a result, many girls are able to spar with other girls the same age. Our own Coach Rosie is a 15 year Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu veteran with a comforting vibe to help girls feel more comfortable. BJJ is a kid friendly activity for San Jose .
We find that girls take even more interest than older ones as they are open to try things at this age. There is a small window of time in which some can learn grappling as an important life skill because they may no longer be interested as a teenager, when the skill set is most needed. As discussed in this article, BJJ provides a safe environment for women to test themselves against men, as is often the case in a real life danger situation.
Destinations such as the Children’s Discovery Museum are popular activities for kids in San Jose for learning and Billy Beez are great for explorative physical activity, but there is no ongoing curriculum with guided lessons, and downtown parking is a headache.
